Q: What will I need to hold this project in my school? 

A: Surprisingly very little! All you will need access to is Creo Elements/Pro (formerly Pro|ENGINEER) Wildfire 5.0 Schools Edition (which you can get for Free!), a CNC router, laser cutter and vacuum former. After that all you need to get you started can be found on this website!

Q: This all looks very expensive, how much does it all cost?

A: Again, surprisingly not very much! You can download the entire curriculum for this project for free if you head along to the Design page. Schools have managed to get the running costs of producing a slot car down to £1.50 per car! If you take advantage of the great deals Scalextric are offering, you will be able to get hold of a track for a dramatically reduced price along with standard internal components for your cars!

Q: This project looks like it will take a big chunk out of teaching the national curriculum, I’m not sure I can justify that.

A: Fear not! The Scalextric4Schools curriculum has been written in a way that it is not just an after school project. It is all linked to the national curriculum so that it covers areas such as CAD, manufacturing processes, mechanics and physics. All this fits neatly into a 6 weeks x 2 hours time period!
